The lid and interior also feature Chinese characters, generally linked to auspicious wishes such as "happiness" or "long life."
Based on its formal and technical characteristics (repudding, symmetrical composition, naturalistic scene), this piece could be attributed to the style known as Chinese Export Silver, developed between the mid-19th and early 20th centuries for the Western market. The hallmark on the base, with oriental characters, suggests a possible origin in workshops in southern China, such as Guangzhou or Shanghai, although this has not been conclusively identified.
