Antique Dutch silver pillbox, dated 1860. Wavy design with ornamental engraving, official seals and export mark.
Small, exquisite, and with more history than meets the eye. This solid silver pillbox was made in the Netherlands and bears the official hallmarks that guarantee its authenticity: the Dutch rampant lion no. 2, which certifies the silver, and the key mark (export), which indicates that this exquisite piece was intended for international trade.
The most fascinating detail: on the inner edge of the lid, we find the letter "e" inside a circle, which, according to the records of Dutch silversmiths, corresponds to the year 1860. More than a box, it is a portable fragment of the 19th century.
Its wavy shape, similar to a baroque silver cushion, and the floral engraving with symmetrical motifs evoke the late rococo taste, still present in the first half of the 19th century, highly valued for toiletries, medicinal uses or even as tobacco pouches.
Compact, elegant and timeless, it is perfect as a collector's item, a minimalist travel jewelry case or a personal altar for treasures.
