Large Victorian vulcanite mourning locket, oval in shape and decorated on the front with an elaborate high-relief bouquet of flowers and leaves. The interior is profusely ornamented with vegetal motifs and cartouches designed to hold portraits or mementos.

Dating from around 1880–1900 and of English origin, it belongs to the tradition of Victorian mourning jewelry, in which vulcanite was used to create pieces with a marked sculptural presence and commemorative character. Due to its size, preservation of the interior decoration, and three-dimensional front work, it is a type particularly sought after by collectors of mourning jewelry.
