Antique Jugendstil parasol handle in 800 silver, decorated with a female bust in high relief and curved lines typical of German Art Nouveau. The personalized engraving “To Catherine from E. Bray, 254 Portland St., Southport” adds sentimental and historical value.
The hallmark "GES. GESCHÜTZT" confirms a registered design in Germany and its manufacture circa 1900. This piece, besides being functional, was a symbol of status and elegance for the ladies of the time. The feminine motif with flowing hair and flowers is iconic of Jugendstil, where the female figure was exalted as an ideal of natural beauty.
