Antique French Belle Époque galalith coin purse with piqué decoration, circa 1900–1910
Out of stock
Belle Époque French coin purse, made of ivory-toned galalith and mounted on a metal frame with a snap closure. The front features reliefs, wavy lines, and piqué decoration with small metal dots, arranged in a symmetrical composition with an ornamental aesthetic.
The gusseted interior is divided into several compartments for storing coins and small items. Galalith, a casein plastic used as an alternative to ivory, brings a modern material to a lobed silhouette and an ornamentation linked to the 19th-century decorative tradition. It is a collectible accessory representative of the transition between traditional luxury objects and the new materials of the early 20th century.
