Victorian black cameo earrings in vulcanite, mourning jewelry
Victorian black cameo earrings in vulcanite, mourning jewelry
Out of stock
Victorian mourning earrings, circa 1880, made of molded vulcanite.
Both elements of the cameo could be made of vulcanite, with distinctive finishes: a shiny outer base and a matte inner relief, a common technique at the time to create visual contrast and richness of textures.
They represent female faces in profile, treated with neoclassical elegance.
The metal setting, possibly blackened iron, includes original hooks with a front closure, typical of 19th-century mourning jewelry.
These pieces evoke the sober and symbolic aesthetic of mourning in the Victorian era, following the official mourning period of Queen Victoria.
These are exceptional pieces, ideal for collectors, history buffs or lovers of the neo-Gothic style.
