Export cigarette case, art deco, in silver and enamel, China, ca. 1940

Out of stock

An exceptional and rare antique oriental cigarette case in silver and black enamel, likely made in China for export between 1930 and 1950. This piece is notable for its stylized design featuring bamboo motifs and finely inlaid silver oriental characters against a black enamel background. The initials EM (or ME) are visible on one side, suggesting it was commissioned for a high-end European or American client, at a time when Asian exoticism was a symbol of elegance.

The contrast between the gleam of the metal and the depth of the enamel reflects influences of Art Deco and Orientalist aesthetics. The cigarette case retains its slightly curved shape, functional closure, and attractive antique patina.

Perfect as a collector's item, a special gift, or a refined decorative accent. No similar piece has been found on any reference platforms, further emphasizing its exclusivity.
