Elegant and sophisticated, this small antique brooch from the 1930s-40s is meticulously crafted in 935 sterling silver with an exquisite exotic bird design – we think it could be a hummingbird. Its hand-enameled body in vibrant shades of blue, green and yellow reflects the delicate craftsmanship of the jewellery of the time. The wings are decorated with set Marcasites, which add a subtle and elegant shine, while its eyes feature a red stone detail that enhances its expression.
This type of brooch was very popular during the Art Deco era, when motifs inspired by nature and exotic fauna were a trend in fine jewelry.
During the 1930s, jewelry was inspired by exotic and geometric designs, characteristic of the Art Deco movement. Enamel and Marcasite pieces were highly appreciated, as they combined elegance and accessibility. Brooches in the shape of animals, especially birds and butterflies, became symbols of sophistication and good taste in the fashion of the time.
