This rare and exceptional antique brooch is an early and rare design by Georg Jensen, crafted in 830 silver and green agate and marked with the GI stamp (the GI stamp in particular is very rare and probably dates to between 1904 and 1908). The numbering no. 77 suggests that it belongs to the early designs of the famous Danish silversmith.
The 830 silver indicates that the piece was made before 1927, as Denmark adopted 925 silver as its standard in 1927. Given these characteristics, it is considered highly likely that the brooch was designed by Georg Jensen himself between 1904 and 1915. However, if its production extended beyond 1915, the design could have been made by Johan Rohde or, less likely, by Harald Nielsen, both key collaborators in Georg Jensen's firm.
The design features an ornamental fluidity characteristic of Scandinavian Art Nouveau, with curved forms and raised details evoking nature – a hallmark of Jensen’s early aesthetic.
This brooch is not only an elegant and timeless piece of jewellery, but also a treasure for collectors, due to its rarity and the historical importance of its design in the evolution of Danish jewellery.
