Authentic Victorian-era mourning brooch, made circa 1870-1890. The piece features a high-relief floral scene finely carved on vulcanite, a moldable and durable material widely used in mourning jewelry after the development of ebonite. The base has a glossy finish, while the central cameo has a matte finish that highlights the contrasting textures.
Designed to represent the memory of a loved one, this black cameo incorporates symbolic flowers—likely daisies—in a symmetrical arrangement of excellent craftsmanship. The long, C-shaped clasp, typical of the period, is mounted on a reinforced base.
This piece represents the sentimentality and mourning rituals of Queen Victoria's England and is highly prized by collectors of antique and period jewelry.
