Celtic-inspired penannular brooch, a functional and symbolic piece, produced around 1930–1950 in the context of the European historical revival. The circular hoop features a traditional opening with a plain design and a satin finish, while the ends are finished with ornamental teardrop-shaped heads decorated with embossed geometric motifs. It includes a movable pin that slides over the hoop to secure the fabric, following the original structural technique of early medieval Celtic and Viking brooches.
The design is reminiscent of the penannular brooch used between the 8th and 10th centuries in Ireland and Scotland, used to hold cloaks or mantles. This type of brooch was revived in the late 19th century as part of the Romantic revival of Celtic art forms. The decoration of the pins evokes traditional patterns familiar from North Atlantic ornamental archaeology, such as the "Tara Brooch" or the "Kilmainham Brooch," combining functionality with symbolic expression.
A unique piece, ideal for those who appreciate jewelry inspired by archaic forms, with a strong visual presence and a clear utilitarian function. It can be used as a clasp on capes, thick stoles, or outerwear, as well as a collectible item or accessory for historical reenactments.
