Antique Dutch silver pillbox, dated 1860. Wave design with ornamental engraving, official hallmarks, and export mark.
Small, exquisite, and steeped in history beyond what meets the eye. This solid silver pillbox was made in the Netherlands and bears the official hallmarks that guarantee its authenticity: the Dutch Lion Rampant No. 2, certifying the silver, and the key mark (export), indicating that this exquisite item was intended for international trade.
The most fascinating detail: on the inside edge of the lid, we find the letter "e" inside a circle, which, according to the records of Dutch silversmiths, corresponds to the year 1860. More than a box, it is a portable fragment from the 19th century.
Its wavy shape, similar to a baroque silver cushion, and the floral engraving with symmetrical motifs evoke the late Rococo taste, still present in the first half of the 19th century, highly appreciated for toiletries, medicinal uses or even as snuff boxes.
Compact, elegant, and timeless, it's perfect as a collectible, a minimalist travel jewelry box, or a personal treasure altar.
