With a gently curved Edwardian polygonal shape, this piece features a restrained design with a fine pearlescent rim that accentuates its contours. Its gold interior adds a touch of luxury.
This sterling silver box was made in Birmingham in 1919, and all indications are that it was the work of silversmith Henry Matthews, whose "HM" hallmark is still partially legible. The British hallmark includes the lion passant (guaranteed for 925 silver), the anchor (the symbol of Birmingham), and the Gothic "u" for the year 1919.
