Original Victorian mourning pendant locket (circa 1900-1920), crafted from black Bakelite with heart-shaped cutouts. It includes a central compartment with a hinged glass lid, designed to hold a photograph or personal memento.
This type of pendant became popular during the mourning period in 19th and 20th century England, especially after the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Bakelite, one of the first plastics used in jewelry, replaced organic materials such as ebony and jet, maintaining the sobriety and symbolism of mourning.
A representative piece of 19th-century sentimental jewelry, worn as a personal memento for the deceased. Ideal for Victorian heirloom collectors or as a symbolic pendant with a strong emotional meaning.
