Amulet-brooch signed by Bahia by renowned Brazilian jeweler Gerson Bahia, featuring multiple three-dimensional pendants: fruits, birds, flowers, and seeds. This piece represents a traditional Balangandã leaf, a symbol of Afro-Brazilian syncretism, very popular in Bahia.
Crafted using a handcrafted casting and assembly technique, this brooch combines votive and protective elements inspired by Yoruba culture and folk Catholicism, reflecting a unique ethnographic style. The silver has a rich natural patina that highlights the authenticity of the work.
During the 20th century, the Balangandã Penca became a symbolic jewel in Afro-Brazilian female identity, especially among traditional Bahian women. Its use was not only decorative but also spiritual.
Ideal to wear as a statement piece or to keep as a collector's item of historical and cultural value.
