Victorian mourning earrings, circa 1880, made of molded vulcanite.
Both elements of the cameo could be made of vulcanite, with distinctive finishes: a shiny outer base and a matte inner relief, a common technique at the time to create visual contrast and rich textures.
They represent female faces in profile, treated with neoclassical elegance.
The metal setting, possibly made of blackened iron, includes original front-closing hooks, typical of 19th-century mourning jewelry.
These pieces evoke the sober and symbolic aesthetics of mourning in the Victorian era, following Queen Victoria's official mourning period.
These are exceptional pieces, ideal for collectors, history buffs, or fans of the neo-Gothic style.
