Art Deco powder compact in silver and purple guilloché enamel, London, 1920, piece
Out of stock
Elegant Art Deco round hanging powder compact in sterling silver with exquisite purple guilloché enamel, dated 1920 and stamped London.
The front features a concentric geometric pattern typical of guilloché, a mechanical engraving technique that creates mesmerizing visual effects beneath the translucent enamel. Inside, the original mirror with its gilded finish is preserved, a luxurious detail characteristic of the period.
The official hallmarks trace its history: "M. Bros.", probably the work of Martin Brothers, British silversmiths. The import mark "U" on the shield indicates an assay in London. The letter "f" is the official date 1920. "925" means sterling silver. The number "14" may be a model or batch reference.
During the 1920s, hanging powder compacts were more than just accessories: they reflected women's newfound freedom and the desire to carry essentials with style. This piece is not only a vanity item but also a symbol of the glamour and social evolution of the modern woman at the beginning of the 20th century. An ideal gift for a woman or a new addition to her collection.
Ideal for collectors, lovers of Art Deco design, or as a functional jewel with a history.
